Applying for Food Stamps
All households must be given the opportunity to apply for food stamps.
Depending upon the applicant's circumstances, the application may be filed:

• In person
• Through an authorized representative
• Through the mail

The application can be signed by:

• The head of household or spouse
• A responsible household member
• An authorized representative

Application
Acceptable application forms include:

• Common Application for Public Assistance - Medical Assistance - Food Stamps - Services
• Food Stamp Application Statement for SSI Recipients and Group Living Residents

Client Responsibilities
Client steps in the application process include:

• Filing and completing an application
• Completing a face to face interview
• Providing verification and documentation of required information

Exceptions to the face to face requirement are made for the following:

• SSI live alones and those living with their spouse (Face to face interviews can be waived.)
• Households where all household members cannot come to the office because of age (60+) or handicap (a telephone interview may be substituted for a face to face interview.)
